The Boone County Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble was founded in 1991 as an extra-curricular ensemble for the more advanced instrumental students at Boone County High School. It became a class during the regular school day in 1993 and an Honors level class in 1999.
The Boone County Wind Ensemble has received a Distinguished Rating at every KMEA Concert Festival it has attended from 1991 through 2017.
The Wind Ensemble was named an Honors Ensemble at the prestigious Dixie Classic Grand National Adjudicator's Concert Festival in Chattanooga, TN and also was selected to perform at the 2000 KMEA State Music Convention in Louisville, KY. In 2011 & 2013, the Wind Ensemble finished 1st, with a Superior Rating at the Gatlinburg Music Festival. The 2014 Wind Ensemble finished 1st, with a Superior Rating at the Washington, D.C. Music Festival and was named most outstanding band. The 2016 Wind Ensemble finished 1st, with a Superior Rating at the Gatlinburg Music in the Parks Festival.
Students audition for this prestigious ensemble each January for the following school year. The band consistently performs Grade IV-VI literature as listed on the KMEA State Concert Band List.
